Monument Valley: Part I (#621)

Located in the states of  Utah and Arizona is what I consider the crown jewel of the Navajo Nation: Monument Valley.

I fell in love with the place by seeing it in Western movies.  Mostly ones starring John Wayne, while I was growing up in the 50s and 60s.  And more recently by reading the Navajo novels of Tony Hillerman who described the valley so well that I could picture it in my mind’s eye.

In Autumn, 2016 I spent a day roaming around Monument Valley. It is the sort of magical place that entered my soul and lingers to this day.
