I Love Being A Stranger In My Homeland (#173)

Traveling around the country in my motorhome gives me many opportunities for exploration.  Especially when I stay at a place for a few weeks.

That’s the way it is in Canyon, Texas.  I’m in the heart of what’s known as The Panhandle, a part of the state that juts out (like a panhandle).  Folks here have given me lists of places to go and things to do and see.

It just thrills me to search for and find something that’s folksy and artsy and one-of-a-kind.  We Americans are exceptionally good at creating yard art.  It’s the stuff of legends here in west Texas.

I can feel the passion that a fellow human being poured into their art.  The long hours, the vision, the determination to bring the dream to reality.   That’s just what Tex Randall is all about: passion, determination, vision.

He’s been standing (rather, towering) in the same spot on Route 60 at the edge of the town of Canyon since 1959.  This cowboy is 47 feet tall and weighs 7 tons.   The creation of Bill Wheeler, he is one tall Texan!

See you on down the road!

Hehehe, that photo is great! The stuff you’ll see in West Texas…. whew. I don’t know if you have yet seen the Cadillac Ranch, but it is worth the stop if you are around that area! = )

Wow, I guess he does tower over everything. Quite a “feet”.

Would love to put that guy in my mobile home park yard for just and day and see all these snooty folks freak out. 🙂
