Rock Writers Mysteries Revealed (#151)

One of the many joys I experience in traveling to different places in my tin can cottage is being an intrepid explorer of whatever place I find myself in.

Knowing that my stay is limited to a few months is the catalyst for many forays and adventures.

In the Arizona Outback the adventures are limitless.

On a day off from waitressing at the Main Street Eatery I traveled 150 miles to an ancient petroglyph site.

When you go to Painted Rock Petroglyph Site near Gila Bend in southern Arizona, this is the road that will take you there.

Once you get to the site your car may be the only one in the parking lot. Enjoy the solitude.

My Outback In The Outback

It brings great joy to be standing in a place where ancients walked, loved, celebrated life.

Many learned people express puzzlement over the meanings of the “rock drawings” or petroglyphs etched into the rocks.

From the rock “writing” at Painted Rock,  here is my interpretation of some of those drawings by the ancient rock writers:

Dear Mom and Dad (and fellow tribe members),

The sun shines on us today!

Our dogs, Mutt and Jeff are having a wonderful time scoping out our new land.

Mutt and Jeff

There is a strange creature here with a long tail.  We call it Leezard.

Leezard

There is a creature here with many arms or legs (I am not sure which).

Many Arms / Legs

The wild bighorn sheep are here for us to hunt.  We will have good eats and warm clothes.

Mr. Big Horn

I walked in circles around the mountain to the top.

Here is our son taking his first steps.

Father And Son Out For A Walk

We have captured a new creature; all neck and legs and horns.  What should we call it?

That’s all for now.  I love you this much!

Big Love

See you soon!

That’s it….the mystery of the meaning of the ancient petroglyphs……or not!

Joy!   Annie
